Teaching and Learning

Prioritizing growth and a love for learning

Bushnell-Prairie City School District #170 is a public and recognized school district in Illinois. As such, we utilize the established framework, the Illinois Learning Standards, to plan teaching and learning opportunities and to guide the selection of all instructional materials and student resources. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness, administered annually to our students is also aligned with these standards, and is used to measure our students' ability to demonstrate their understanding of the skills and concepts contained within the standards. Learn more about the Illinois Learning Standards here.

In addition to the Illinois Learning Standards, all public school districts in Illinois are required to teach mandated units of study and must demonstrate those units of study appear in our curriculum during ongoing compliance audits conducted required by the Illinois State Board of Education and completed by the Regional Office of Education.

Character Counts

Character Counts is a program that utilizes six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship as a foundational strategy to promote good decision-making, social-emotional growth and development, and positively influence school climate and safety.

Character Counts is currently implemented in grades Pre K-8. Learn more about the Character Counts program.
