Board elections occur in odd-numbered years during the Consolidated General Election. Board members are elected for 4-year terms. Once elected, school board members are required to complete professional development leadership training in education and labor law, financial oversight and accountability, fiduciary responsibilities and trauma-informed practices for students and staff (effective fall of 2023). Each board member must also complete training on the Open Meetings Act and the Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA).
Good school board governance advances the following priorities: clarify the district's purpose, connect with the community, employ a superintendent, delegate authority, monitor performance, and take responsibility for itself.
Bushnell-Prairie City Schools is fortunate to have experienced and committed board members who, as a whole, have improved the District's financial health, engaged in activities and initiatives that promote staff and student success, and seek to improve facilities.
