The Bushnell-Prairie City Parent-Student Handbook contains all of the official language of acceptable use and schedule of charges associated with district-owned technology. Jump to section 7 of the Handbook to review.
You have been assigned your own Chromebook for school use during this school year. You are responsible for keeping your Chromebook in 100% working order and if something is not working properly, you are responsible for reporting the issue to the technology department by using the Spartan Help Desk ticket system linked in Clever.
The Chromebook you were issued is the property of B-PC School District and is subject to the Acceptable Use and Care Agreement that is signed within the Parent-Student Handbook. (The technology section of the Handbook is also linked on this page below.) There you can also find a schedule of charges that applies to repairs of these Chromebooks when necessary.
Bushnell-Prairie City High School runs a 1:1 program (1 device to every 1 student) with Google Chromebooks. The Chromebook that is assigned to you is the Chromebook you will keep until you graduate or withdraw from B-PC High School. Once you meet all the requirements for graduation, and all your fees are paid in full, the school will transfer ownership of the Chromebook to you and it will be yours to keep. Graduating seniors are notified of this process and the pertinent details near the end of their senior year.
If you withdraw prior to meeting all graduation requirements, the Chromebook must be returned. And, during your enrollment here, the Chromebook remains the property of B-PC School District and is subject to the Acceptable Use and Care Agreement that is signed within the Parent-Student Handbook. There is also a schedule of charges that applies to repairs of these Chromebooks that can be found in the Handbook.
You are responsible for keeping your Chromebook secure and in 100% working order during your enrollment here. If you are a freshman this year, you have a brand new Chromebook- it has never been used by anyone else, and it will be yours through graduation.
As a High School student, you can print at school from your Chromebook. The printer you are permitted to use is the black and white copier in the hallway near Mr. Arnold's room. It will appear in your printer list as HS_Hall_Papercut - [HS Hall]
(Printing to other machines in the district will not authorize properly. If you accidentally choose the wrong printer, just re-print to the correct one.)
You may have to drop down the "Destination" list in your print dialogue (after clicking Print) and choose, "See more" the very first time you try to print to get the printer list:
Printing is a student privilege; it is an extension of our network and devices that is covered under the Acceptable Use section in the Parent-Student Handbook. Feel free to review those and be aware that printing privileges may be revoked at any time if misuse occurs.
Your printing is monitored by a system called Papercut. It requires you to log in to send a print and to "release" a print at the copy machine. When you click Print and choose your printer, you will be prompted on your Chromebook screen to enter your bpcschools username (gwashington55@bpcschools.org) and your Chromebook (Google) password:
Then that print will be "held" at the copy machine until you have time to walk over and release it. You can do this at lunch, between classes, or anytime up to 24 hours after you actually click Print. You must have permission from your teacher to leave class to retrieve a print. After 24 hours, any jobs waiting that you haven't released will be removed from your list.
Once at the copy machine, locate the small touch-screen display and keyboard/mouse. Type in your username and password, and your list of print jobs appears. You may release or cancel any print jobs you wish using the mouse or touchscreen.
You have a 200 page/year limit on your printing per school year. You will see this on the screen as a dollar amount, but we are not charging you for your prints; this is just how the system counts your pages. So, you can imagine that you have a $10 limit, and every page you print "costs" $0.05. That comes to 200 pages. Once you reach your limit, you won't be able to print more pages that school year. Prints are only counted against your limit once they are released.
Printing on both sides of a page is 2 pages of printing; a single page with printing on both sides will deduct $0.10 from your balance.
This should get you started. If you have any problems submit a help request through the Spartan Help Desk and be careful to type your email correctly and let us know when you have a study hall or a time when we can come find you.
Dual credit courses and other alternative programming offered by Bushnell-Prairie City CUSD #170 in conjunction with another institution may require the use of a computer other than the standard-issue Chromebook provided by B-PC.
B-PC is not responsible for supporting platforms associated with dual credit or alternative programming, nor is it responsible for the purchase of compatible devices and/or applications. Be advised that specific hardware and/or software and internet access may be required or recommended for some courses.
Contact your guidance counselor and/or B-PC’s IT Department with questions.
It's a good idea to reach out to your instructor about technology requirements for their course before it begins so you're prepared.
Here is a sample:
EMAIL ACCOUNT DEACTIVATION
Be informed that on December 1 of the calendar year in which you graduate, (that's the December after you graduate) your "@bpcschools.org" email account will be deactivated and you will no longer be able to access it after that date.
Below are some articles that might be helpful in backing up any data you want to keep. If these articles don't get you what you need, check YouTube and remember that your B-PC Schools account is a G Suite for Education account, which behaves a bit differently than a personal Gmail account.
If you have any questions, reach out to the B-PC Technology Department.
SENIOR CHROMEBOOK GIFT 🎓
If you have enough credits to graduate, and your student account carries a $0 balance, you're eligible to take your Chromebook with you after graduation!
Review the general details of this process outlined below:
Students who have earned enough credits to graduate will be offered the opportunity to assume ownership of their B-PC Chromebook. Simply put, B-PC is allowing all qualifying graduates to keep their Chromebook free of charge.
There are two requirements for each individual to be eligible:
Transfer of eligible devices will take place during the school day on one of the final school attendance days for seniors (details will be communicated via email and USPS mailing prior to these dates). Eligible students will be required to have their charged Chromebook with them at that time. Students not wishing to keep their Chromebook should turn the device in then. Students working on credit recovery through Bushnell-Prairie City High School are still permitted to keep their device as they complete their credits.
If a student is actively recovering credits and Bushnell-Prairie City High School is still considered his/her serving school into the summer following the student's senior year, the student will be eligible to receive their Chromebook as soon as those credits are completed. Mrs. Webb must be notified when credits are fully earned. If credits are not earned, and the student withdraws, the Chromebook and charging cable must be returned.
Additional details and updates will be communicated with all members of the senior class near the end of each school year.
